August 17, 2024
10:00 AM – REFUGE CEREMONY (10 AM to 11 AM Pacific time)
Noon – BODHISATTVA VOW (Noon to 3:00 PM Pacific time)
In-person at the Heart of Wisdom Temple in Portland (map here)
Or online by Zoom
The bodhisattva vows are a formal commitment to free others from suffering and bring them to enlightenment. While it might seem easy to wish all beings could be happy, free from suffering, and find enlightenment, it’s another thing to formally make a commitment to work towards that goal. The actions that you take toward that goal are more powerful and stabilized by making a commitment to center this intention in your life.
Please register by July 14 if possible.
Note: To receive the bodhisattva vow you must:
1. Participate in the Bodhisattva Practice and Study Group. Sessions you miss must be viewed as recordings.
2. Attend the August 10 class Understanding the Commitments of the Bodhisattva Vow (or listen to the recording); and
3. Have already taken formal Refuge. If that is not the case, we are offering that in a ceremony on the morning on August 17, but you must register, perferably by July 14.
The ceremony of the offering of the bodhisattva vow and the optional celebratory tea afterwards will be open to guests of those taking the vow. Please let George know how many people you will bring to the temple.
Those at a distance may take the vow via streaming, and can arrange a brief in-person receiving of the vow.
