Green Tara Series: Getting to Know Green Tara through Mantra

In our year-long exploration of the practice of Green Tara, we will explore many aspects of the practice. One of these ways is through the use of mantra. The word mantra comes from a Sanskrit term meaning “mind protection.” In Vajrayana Buddhism, mantras embody in sound the essence of a particular buddha or other beings. In chanting mantra, we directly connect with those qualities, thereby awakening our own buddhanature. The sounds of mantra have the capacity to purify negativities and veils, making the true nature of mind more accessible. Mantras are an integral part of every Vajrayana practice. In this brief introduction, we’ll explore mantra in general and the Green Tara mantra in particular. This class is open to all.
